Weightlifting: Khurda women, Ganjam men triumph

Khurda women and Ganjam men reigned supreme in the 63rd Men and 31st Women State Weightlifting Championships, which was conducted by Odisha Weightlifting Association at Kanyaka Parameswari Temple ground in Berhampur today.

Khurda woman Jhili Dalabehera won the gold in 48kg weight class, setting three new state records in the process. She lifted 66kg in snatch and 86kg in clean & jerk for a total of 152kg to erase the previous record that stood in the name of Tikina Gopal since 1999-2000.

Altogether 53 lifters, including 22 women, from 10 districts participated in the day-long championship, which was inaugurated by Arjuna Awardee lifter Bijay Kumar Satpathy.

MEN: 56kg: 1. Sushant Kumar Hembram, 2. Ramachandra Hembram, 3. Aswini Kumar Nayak. 62kg: 1. Nobaigal Gamango, 2. Rajendra Muduli, 3. Pradeep Sahu. 69kg: 1. Bapuji Biswal, 2. Mihirkanta Sethi, 3. Sushant Kumar Sethi.
